Our petition worked, but we are not done yet!
As of August 31, 2020, VDN Strong obtained more than the required number of signatures needed to force a special meeting of the members for the purpose of removing the current board. Last week, Alamo Management Group verified that we had indeed obtained the necessary signatures. The bylaws require that the Board members be given notice of their potential removal, which our petition succeeded in doing. The Association’s attorney now advises that we need to have a formal voting process to remove each Board member individually – one at a time – utilizing secret ballots.  This can all be done at the special meeting.  The Board, with the assistance of the Association’s attorney and the management company are preparing the notice of the special meeting and a ballot to send to members. We expect this notice and ballot will be sent out next week.  Members can vote electronically, or by mailing back their ballot.  The results of the voting will be announced at the special meeting.

So, what does this mean?
This means that we need to continue to be diligent and VOTE by the deadline! It is imperative that we echo the petition and continue with this formal process because our voices are still not being heard.  The Board could have made this process much easier if they had simply communicated with the members, rather than taking away our voting rights.  This whole process continues to cost us in legal fees and administrative fees.  We look forward to the day when we have a new board that will be transparent and respect the membership rather than cutting us out of our own neighborhood.

What do we do now?

Continue to talk to your neighbors about what is happening in our neighborhood. We need to make sure that everyone who signed the petition turns in a ballot. There will be a way to vote electronically or by paper. If you talked to neighbors about signing the petition, talk to them about continuing what we started. Let us work together to turn each petition signature into a completed ballot!

You may be wondering how a new board is put in place after the current board’s removal.  As crazy as it sounds, the current board will be removed one-by-one and the remaining board members will appoint their successor.  Members will not get to elect new board members (for those rotating off) until the annual meeting in January.  We will be coming out with more information about this topic soon.

Stay tuned and get out the word!
